Laura Noble

Laura NobleBorn in East London in 1973, Laura Noble read English in Sheffield before studying art in Bristol. As a photographer she concentrates on finding abstract images that could be said to occur naturally, if nature consisted largely of man-made industrial detritus. Her studies of rusty metal have a richness of texture that many painters would be pleased to achieve, although few would like to hear it said. The photographs presented here are early works, prefiguring her current interest in questions of scale. Abstract yet resolutely concrete, the images she creates give life to the aesthetic connection between the infinitely small and the infinitely large. Strange landscapes start appearing, as though seen from space: satellite pictures of a mineral planet corroded by its own oxygen.
