I once always finished ahead
I got what I wanted and more
I went on so long without losing
I suppose it's the luck of the draw

I got what I wanted before
I was used to the runaway wins
And that makes it hard to put up with
When at long last the bad patch begins

And it had to be the one that mattered
Who didn't want to know
And I wonder if all the others were the same
But didn't show

I once always finished ahead
I got what I wanted and more
So long as I did the choosing
I suppose it's the luck of the draw
